Description : Sous la supervision du responsable de site (Lastoursville, Gabon) et en étroite collaboration avec un ingénieur national, vous participerez aux différentes activités de recherche/développement de la composante gabonaise du projet européen Sustainable Wildlife Management (2018-2022).
Vous serez principalement impliqué(e) dans la mise en œuvre d'activités de recherche et développement visant à concilier les enjeux de conservation de la biodiversité et de développement au travers d'une exploitation durable et légale de la faune sauvage par et pour les communautés rurales Vos tâches seront les suivantes : 
- Lancer, mettre en œuvre et gérer le projet sur le terrain en partenariat avec les institutions nationales, les partenaires privés du projet (exploitation forestières certifiées), et les communautés locales ;
- mettre en œuvre et superviser les protocoles de diagnostic et de suivi du projet, appuyer la préparation et la mise en œuvre de plans de gestion et d'un schéma départemental de gestion de la chasse ;
- encadrer une équipe locale (enquêteurs, étudiants nationaux et internationaux) ;
- mettre en œuvre et/ou appuyer la mise en œuvre des protocoles de recherche du projet ;
- contribuer à la valorisation scientifique du projet en collaboration avec l'équipe de recherche.

Description : Dear IPBES members, observers and other interested stakeholders,

In the context of the IPBES Fellowship Programme, and in parallel to the call for nominations of experts sent on 23 April 2018 (EM/2018/06), we would like to invite governments, relevant institutions and organizations to nominate fellows for

- the methodological assessment regarding the diverse conceptualization of multiple values of nature and its benefits, hereafter referred to as “the assessment on values” (Based on a scoping document set out in annex VI to decision IPBES-4/1); and

- the thematic assessment of the sustainable use of wild species (Based on a scoping document set out in annex IV to decision IPBES-5/1)  .
Selected fellows will take part as authors in the chapter of the assessment they are selected for. They will attend author meetings and receive training to gain an in-depth understanding of the IPBES assessment processes. They will also be paired up with a mentor for the assessment period. 

The IPBES Fellowship Programme targets early career experts who wish to gain experience by participating in the work of IPBES. Expertise of candidates should match the needs of one of the two assessments, and be in line with the themes and skills required in the chapters of their respective scoping documents (please see footnotes 1 and 2 to access the scoping documents).

Nominated fellows should have expertise in one or more disciplines of natural science, social science or the humanities, be indigenous and local knowledge experts or have expertise in indigenous and local knowledge systems, or be policy experts and practitioners. All nominees should have experience in working within interdisciplinary, international and/or global contexts.

We are particularly looking for fellows with a scientific and/or practical background in: ecological and environmental economics, environmental and sustainability sciences, environmental ethics and philosophy, environmental sociology and anthropology, environmental psychology and behavioral science, environmental history, science and technology studies, political ecology, human geography, human ecology, cultural ecology, environmental policy and law, political sciences and trade, and from other fields related to integrative approaches to human-nature relations and linking knowledge to policy and practice.

Governments and organizations are invited to nominate women as well as men with a diversity of disciplinary backgrounds in order to ensure a balanced team of fellows.

The nominating government or organization (Nominator) indicated by the Nominee will receive an email with a link to the nomination form and will be invited to approve and submit the nominations in the web portal.
Nominators and Nominees will receive a confirmation via email once the nomination has been duly submitted.
Nominating organizations or institutions are not required to have been admitted to the Plenary of IPBES as an observer. Please help us to disseminate this call for nominations of experts widely to relevant institutions and organizations. 

Interested fellows (Nominees) are encouraged to contact their IPBES National Focal Point (https://www.ipbes.net/national-focal-points) regarding any country-specific processes or deadlines and are requested to fill out their application form by no later than 8 June 2018. Nominators (governments or organizations) should approve the applications and submit their nominations by 18 June 2018. Early nominations ahead of the deadline are encouraged. Fellows will be selected by the respective management teams, which includes the co-chairs of the assessment and members of the Multidisciplinary Expert Panel. Fellows will be informed of their selection in July/August 2018.

All nominated experts need to be available to attend their respective assessment’s first author meeting, which are scheduled as follows (venues for these meetings will be communicated in due course):

Assessment on values:17-21 September 2018;
Assessment of sustainable use of wild species: 24-28 September 2018.

Cocoa production schemes and deforestation in Western Africa

Description : This mission will last 6 months, based in Paris, with travels to Ghana and / or Dominican Republic.
The internship is under the responsibility of the biodiversity programme of IDDRI.
The general objective of this internship is:
- To produce a synthesis of existing cocoa producing schemes typologies in the existing literature and propose one adapted to the study, especially to the issue of biodiversity / deforestation.
- Complete and adapt the analysis through field missions in Ghana and/or the Dominican Republic with a focus on the impact on deforestation. Fieldwork will allow to check the solidity of the typology, its relevance to tell apart practices in terms of deforestation, and to know more about the producers’ situation in the various production categories, especially with respect to their economic, commercial and social interactions.
The mission will provide the intern with opportunities to be part of a research and intervention project, have their results shared, popularised and used, expand their network, and to be part of a team known for its long-lasting involvement in sustainable policy-making.

Advert for Editor Position - African Conservation Telegraph (ACT)

Description : The African Conservation Telegraph (ACT) is a newsletter published by the Africa section of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB). The newsletter aims to inform readers on conservation issues throughout Africa. It provides pertinent information to conservation practitioners; managers, policy makers, academics, and students in the field of conservation biology. ACT presents articles from scientific and non-scientific disciplines but with an emphasis on biological conservation and written in a language understandable to mainstream society. More details here. The Africa section Board of Directors is seeking a volunteer Editor for ACT. The position would require a  PhD holder with minimum 3-5 years’ experience (or sufficient peer-review publications) in the field of conservation biology, editing and publishing.

Responsibilities will include:

1. Creating a new trajectory for ACT and improving its continental and global relevance, excellence and quality.

2. Soliciting potential authors for ACT and finding potential reviewers for shortlisted submissions.

3. Leading an Editorial Team which would comprise of interested members of the Africa Board and invited scientists and practitioners.
